The Guy in Cell 126 part 1

Thwak! Thwak! Thwak! Were the last sounds of freedom I had been tossed in jail. I was sentenced to a life in prison, for whatever I done did. Everyone wondered, "What happened to him? He was such a small cute boy."  Times change, so do people. I was assigned to Cell 119, which was directly across the hall from Cell 126. Where my life starts anew.


A blood-curdling bell rings. That means breakfast time. They don't trust us enough to let us out to get our own food, so the push food to us through the bars. A plate of American cheese slices (I can tell) slides under the gate. "It's not cheddar cheese." I growl under my breath. "Excuse me?" says the maid that brings our food. I call her 'Food Lady' "It's not smoked cheese!  You know you're supposed to bring me smoked cheddar cheese!" I yell at her. Food Lady just stands there, looking insulted. She gives me the finger and goes down the hallway. I look at the plate of chemicals that they call 'cheese'. I eat it anyway because we only breakfast every three days. I hear footsteps come down the hallway again. This time, Food Lady has a big black garbage bag and is headed for Cell 126. Because the bag is so big, she has to open the cell door all the way to get it in. The door looks heavy but she opens it.  Now, with my door wide open I would've escaped. But the guy doesn't move. He was sleeping on the suspended bench. He opens one eye and nods slightly. Food Lady lifts the bag and a huge chunk of raw meat slides out. I'm glad I only eat 'cheese' here. The meat is very red and blood is oozing out of it. The guy smiles and this growling/purring sound that scares me, compared to all the growling I do. Since they don't let us do nothing, I watched my across-the-hall cellmate eat his breakfast. The blood, the crunching of the bones, the swallowing, oh it was terrifying! It made me feel like my life was in danger for I've never felt that that way before. The display made me feel as if this guy wasn't fully human. Then again, neither am I.
